Prostatitis causes intense pain, urinary complications, sexual dysfunction, infertility, and a drastic reduction in the quality of life. Prostatitis often causes pain that may be associated with the prostate gland which may or may not involve a bacterial infection or inflammation of the prostate gland. The prostate is a small organ about the size of a walnut. It is found below the bladder (where urine is stored) and surrounds the tube that carries urine away from the bladder (urethra).

Acute prostatitis is an infection of the prostate caused by bacteria. It usually starts fast and can cause fever, chills, or pain in the lower back and between the legs. It also can cause pain when you urinate. Acute bacterial prostatitis is the most serious form of the disease. Men with this type of prostatitis are often very ill. Acute Prostatitis is most likely to occur in men 40 to 60 years old.

Chronic prostatitis is a prostate infection that keeps coming back time after time. Prostate infection symptoms may be milder than in acute prostatitis, but they can last longer. Chronic Prostatitis is most likely to occur in men older than age 50.

Ten years ago I was diagnosed with BPH, a non-cancerous enlargement of the prostate. I was advised by the first urologist to have "roto-rooter" surgery, which I declined after reviewing its harmful side-effects. Instead, he placed me on Hytrin and then Cardura, medications designed to lower blood pressure, that presumably would relieve pain and difficulty of urination. Now I an supplementing with testesterone cream and progesterone cream (which combines to reduce estrogen levels) and experiencing significant lowering of PSA. This PSA drop indicates my prostate is shrinking. Currently I have confidence for continuing recovery, thank God!
