Peripheral neuropathy , AKA peripheral nerve disease is caused by the deterioration of the nerves that lead to the ends of the limbs (hands and feet). This makes it impossible for the body and spinal column to communicate with the muscles, bone and other tissue that makes up the upper and lower extremity. The peripheral nervous system is the body’s “electrical wiring system”. Any disruption in this system will cause foot pain symptoms such as burning, tingling, numbness, itchiness, and occasional shooting pains all the way to unremitting pain. Peripheral neuropathy may lead to the inability of the body to “feel” the ground that you are walking on. If left untreated peripheral neuropathy can lead to permanent loss of nerve function, tissue damage and muscle atrophy.

Peripheral neuropathy can be caused by disease; nerve compression, entrapment, or laceration; exposure to toxins; or inflammation.

Vitamin C (from Magnesium ascorbate)   Vitamin C has been shown to enhance neurite outgrowth.

N-Acetyl-L-Cysteine (NAC)   Cysteine is a conditionally essential sulfur bearing amino acid, derived by the combination of methionine and pyridoxal 5 phosphate (vitamin B6).   N-acetyl-L-cysteine (NAC) is a derivative of L-cysteine wherein an acetyl group is attached to the nitrogen atom, and the precursor form to glutathione.

L-Carnitine (N-Acetyl l-Carnitine)   Acetyl L-carnitine is the acetyl ester of the amino acid L-carnitine and is similar in form to the amino acid L-carnitine. Acetyl L-carnitine absorbed into the bloodstream more efficiently than L-carnitine and passes more easily through cell membranes and is utilized more efficiently in the mitochondria of the cell.   L-carnitine is a non-essential amino acid normally synthesized from the amino acids lysine and methionine in the presence of Vitamin C (ascorbic acid) in the kidneys and liver. Carnitine occurs naturally in the body within the inner membrane of mitochondria where it is responsible for the transport of fatty acids from the cytosol into the mitochondria matrix to be oxidized for energy.

Lipoic Acid Complex (Alpha Lipoic,R Lipoic)   A vitamin-like substance and a potent anti-oxidant that enhances the effect of other anti-oxidants. It helps maintain levels of Glutathione, an important anti-oxidant. It regenerates damaged nerves. It is a neurological antioxidant that chelates free iron. It improves mitochondrial function (mitochondria are the energy-producing units of cells).
